To help foster a healing environment, MA is leading the curation of an ambitious art program for the future UCSF Health Helen Diller Hospital at Parnassus Heights.
The UCSF Helen Diller Hospital Art Program is a key component of UCSF Health’s “Healing Habitat”—a vision for the new hospital that promotes wellness through the thoughtful integration of art into the built environment. Drawing inspiration from the Bay Area’s natural landscape and UCSF’s Health mission for caring, healing, teaching and discovery, the program bridges nature, science, and culture to support health and community well-being.
Through a layered curatorial approach, the program will include site-specific commissions, immersive installations, and artwork by a wide range of artists—from emerging local talent to internationally acclaimed figures—whose perspectives reflect the richness and complexity of the surrounding community. This strategy emphasizes artistic excellence, personal resonance, and architectural sensitivity, creating welcoming, motivating, and reflective spaces that enhance the patient, visitor, and staff experience. In doing so, the UCSF Diller Hospital Art Program sets a new standard for the future of healthcare environments.
Designed by Herzog & de Meuron with HDR, the hospital broke ground in San Francisco’s Parnassus Heights neighborhood in April 2024.
